Leveraging Cloud Services in Library Arena – A Perspective

The recent advances in communication technology have resulted in paradigm shifts in every field of science. Sharing of resources and information over networks and Internet has taken newer dimensions with focus on models benefitting the end user community. Cloud computing has added better fuel in his advancement by providing reliability, security and "Pay as you Use" services. With Cloud computing, the IT components (hardware and software) are offered as "Services" in terms of infrastructure, platform and software. The industry statistics reveal benefits of the cloud phenomena from both perspectives of vendors and end users.
Library arena too has had its share in terms of changing demands of users thru digitization of content, electronic media, online access, and subscribed content and discovery services. However "Cloud Services" has been emerging phenomena in library through cataloguing, resource sharing and online references etc., quite early. The basic library services integrated with changing needs of information of users with impact of cloud computing can pave way new and evolving view of library arena in future. The modernized approach for library services could include single search box, query tools, summaries and recommendation services amongst others.
